Our “B Stock” vehicles offer enthusiasts a chance to own an RHD import for restoration purposes. These vehicles have various mechanical or structural defects that prevent the vehicle from passing a state safety inspection and are perfect for anyone looking for a bit of a project at the fraction of the cost of one of our turn-key vehicles. This is a 1991 Toyota Soarer 4.0 GT Limited that was purchased from Japan with a faulty odometer and touch screen. It came factory equipped with the 4.0 V8 1UZ-FE engine and a 4 speed automatic transmission, and is extremely comparable to the USDM Lexus SC400. The engine and transmission work flawlessly with no issues. The engine has good compression and the transmission shifts smoothly. The exterior is finished in the original Toyota Emerald Green Pearl (6M2) and has certainly held up nicely for being a 31-year-old vehicle. The exterior is bone stock and wears a set of Japan exclusive alloy mesh wheels, a great complement to the timeless “bubble” styling of the 90’s. The interior is trimmed in grey leather and, aside from some expected age-related defects, is still in good shape. The upholstery on the seats is good, save for some cracking on the driver’s side seat bolster and light stains throughout. The dash is clean and free of any cracks or other sun related damage. Being at the forefront of Japan’s automotive bubble market in the 90’s, Toyota was always pushing to release only the latest and greatest in automotive technology. Unfortunately, the innovative touch screen navigation, radio, and climate control units love to malfunction. Attempts on our end to fix the screen have been unsuccessful, although the Automatic AC, defrost, and temp controls still work. For an electronic repair savvy buyer, this Soarer could be a quick fix, and most issues seem to be isolated to the dash wiring. The second issue is the lack of a digital odometer reading. Records from Japan indicate this vehicle received repairs to the digital instrument cluster. The airbag light illuminated and the odometer stopped working afterwards. Mileage before the repair was recorded at 107,332 km. Translating to roughly 66,693 miles, this Soarer still has plenty of life left on the near indestructible powertrain. All power features work, including the sunroof and electronically controlled air suspension. Turn the key and the 1UZ-FE V8 fires up without a hitch. These non-VVTI 1UZ engines are highly regarded for their staunch reliability and smooth operation, and this one is no different. The brakes are strong and should last the next owner a while before needing replacement.
