Efini Mazda RX7 Type R:
This Efini Mazda RX7 Type R is a legendary JDM sport coupe that we’re certainly no stranger to here at J-Spec Auto. As values continue to soar we’ve been searching tirelessly to bring over only the most worthy examples of this twin turbo wankel powered warrior, and this particular example is about the nicest first year “Efini” RX7 we’ve ever laid eyes on. This RX-7 Optioned from the factory in Type R trim, this flawless FD has only racked up 38,699 (24,046!) original kilometres since it rolled off the showroom floor in 1992, and with a history of consistent mileage records it’s evident that this car was meticulously cared for during its time in Japan and never left to rot. The exterior is finished in none other than Mazda’s iconic Vintage Red (NU). One of the most popular and beautiful color options for the RX7, nothing says 90’s JDM sports car like a bright red paint job and flashy OEM bodywork. While the car is in excellent shape, we need to note this is a respray, due to clear coat fade on the original paint. Speaking of bodywork, the exterior has been optioned with some choice upgrades to enhance the look of this FD without going too over the top. The factory front bumper has been replaced with a quality FRP unit produced by C West, utilizing the “99 spec” style markers, this really gives a proper facelift to the chassis while still flowing with the smooth OEM body lines. OEM side skirts are standard equipment on the Type R models, and a 99 spec rear wing and tail lights give other drivers on the road something nice to look at as this FD leaves them in the dust. JDM nuts will appreciate the aftermarket Ganador mirrors as well. The OEM 16” alloys have been replaced with a much more fitting set of 17” Enkei wheels, graciously donated off a Mitsubishi Evo 9. Aragosta coilovers have been installed and set up to eliminate any unsightly wheel gap while still keeping the ride height functional. Swing open the wide coupe doors and you’ll find that the interior has been modified in a similar fashion, upgraded for performance without being too flashy. The factory suede bucket seats have been replaced with a matching pair of Recaro SR3’s from a Honda Type R. The seats are in flawless condition and are period correct, so they match the interior quite nicely. The Japan exclusive rear seats are in equally as good of shape. The dash is very clean, with no cracks, bubbles or sun fading, and all buttons and switches work as expected, down to the climate control with ice cold AC. The OEM steering wheel has been replaced with a Nardi Classic 3 spoke that feels great in the hands while driving. The gauge cluster has been swapped to a beautiful 99 spec unit, but the install was done professionally and mileage was not altered during the changeover. Turn the key and the 13B twin turbo rotary engine fires right up without hesitation. Mazda purists will be glad to notice that the engine has actually remained mostly stock, save for a full turboback exhaust that frees up some much-needed horsepower in the low end. Boost comes on strong and the factory twins clearly have a ton of life left. Shifts are smooth through the 5 speed manual transmission and the car handles even better than it looks. Last up on the list of OEM 99 spec upgraded parts are a larger set of brake calipers and rotors. If you’re looking for a tastefully modified, well kept low mileage FD RX7 that hasn’t fallen victim to typical low mileage import woes, grab this one before it reaches collector status.
