Vehicle History

Description

Up for sale is a prime example of one of Subaru’s most celebrated vehicles on both the dirt, snow, and pavement. Following the success of the Subaru Legacy platform in the World Rally Cross championship, Subaru engineers sought to develop a new, more compact vehicle that would outperform the competition and improve upon the already proven drivetrain of its larger predecessor. This vehicle was dubbed the Impreza WRX, with WRX standing for “World Rally eXperiment”. The first generation GC8 and GF8 WRX featured a new turbocharged “EJ20G” flat four, which produced an impressive 230hp, a close-ratio 5 speed manual transmission, and of course Subaru’s legendary symmetrical AWD system. These first gen WRX’s have somewhat of a cult following in the USA due to their classic rally styling, incredible performance off road, and the fact that they were never offered in a turbocharged variant on US shores. Now, 25 years later, these rally-inspired imprezas are finally legal to import in the USA, and this 1995 model year “GF8” WRX wagon is a beautiful, near stock example of what the USA never received. The exterior is finished in the original Subaru Light Silver metallic(47A). The body has held up incredibly well for a 26-year-old vehicle and the paint hardly has any major defects aside from a few dings here and there. Those that know Subaru know about the rust issues that plague these early models. Luckily this example has been extremely well kept and the body is just as flawless as it was 27 years ago! Enthusiasts will appreciate the utility of the wagon body style, and with subtle rally inspired styling cues, this WRX is sure to catch the attention of any enthusiast on the road. Aftermarket “ASISS” 6 spoke alloys compliment the silver paint nicely, and a few subtle exterior touches really separate this WRX from other imprezas, namely the OEM side and rear lip kit, and massive rally style fog lights up front. This vehicle is a total 90’s time capsule! The interior is incredibly clean for its age, The grey cloth upholstery on the stock seats is free of any major rips, tears, or bolster wear, and the dash plastics are also in great shape with no cracking or sun fading. Despite the vehicle’s compact size, this Impreza has ample leg room in both the front and rear, with plenty of storage space in the trunk! Leave it to Subaru engineers to design a rally car that’s still practical for everyday use. All features and switches are fully functional, even down to the automatic climate control! Sit in the cockpit and you instantly notice the OEM three spoke Nardi steering wheel. Paired with a matching leather Nardi shift knob, these add a classy touch to the interior and really aid in enhancing the driving experience. The dash displays just 90,713 verified kilometres (56k miles!) and is fully functional and free of any warning lights. Turn the key and The 2 liter “EJ20G” turbocharged 4 cylinder engine fires right up and idles smoothly. Being a 1995 model year, this WRX received a power bump from the factory from 230 to 256 hp. In a small, lightweight chassis, this was more than enough get up and go. Unlike most Subarus, this flat four has never been modified. Acceleration is quite punchy, with a solid amount of low-end torque, and the OEM dual tip exhaust projects just the slightest rumble while driving down the road. The 5 speed manual gearbox shifts smoothly, thanks to a new shifter bushing. The AWD system behaves as expected, diving in and out of corners without losing an ounce of traction, and the stock suspension takes bumps and turns quite nicely. We have performed a full service and complete inspection of the vehicle to ensure that it is ready to hit the road with no issues! If you’re looking for a practical daily driver that can attack the road under even the most demanding of conditions, this rally-ready RHD WRX Wagon will serve you well.
