Vehicle History
Toyota’s second generation “SW20” MR2 has been heralded as one of the best budget sports cars of all time. Introduced in 1990, the MR2 turbo was vastly ahead of its time, mostly due to the fact that it could keep up with fellow mid-engine monsters from the likes of Ferrari and Porsche with ease. It had the spirit of the European supercar in a reliable, well built Japanese body, and its this spirit that makes the SW20 MR2 such a cult classic in today’s collector market. This particular 1995 model year MR2 GT-S has been cared for well during it’s time in Japan and is now ready to go to its eager next owner. The exterior is finished in a brilliant coat of Toyota Super White II. While the MR2 looks fantastic in stock form, many owners opt to install aftermarket aero options to give the car a more aggressive look. This car is no exception, and has been equipped with a full Eurou body kit (Front bumper, fenders, side skirts, rear spats, spoiler) to make this JDM icon a real street style head turner. Other notable additions to the body include an aggressive Tom’s air scoop and a period correct set of AVS Model 6 wheels. With iconic styling cues such as pop-up headlights, we’d say the exterior vaguely resembles a Ferrari 348, which is excellent for anyone looking to turn heads wherever they go. The interior on this midship masterpiece is remarkably clean as well. For a 25 year old vehicle the quality and condition of the OEM equipment is impressive. The cloth seats are well bolstered and free of major rips and tears and the dash has no sign of any peeling, cracks, or bubbles. All dash buttons and switches are fully functional and work as expected. The interior has been lightly modified to enhance the performance driving experience. A beautiful MOMO 3 spoke steering wheel replaces the cumbersome OEM unit, and the original gauge cluster has been swapped with a rare TRD unit, increasing the maximum limit on the speedometer to 300 km/h. Since this cluster replaced the original unit, the displayed 133,000 km is unverified however actual chassis mileage does not appear to be far off this figure, considering the excellent condition of the car. Look up and you’ll notice that this MR2 was equipped with the factory T-Top option, making this one a great option for those looking for an exhilarating summer vehicle. The OEM T-Top bags stow away in the trunk when its time to take the top off. Driving this MR2 is an experience in itself. Turn the key and the 2.0 turbocharged 3S-GTE fires up without a hitch. Being a 1995 model, this MR2 was part of the 3rd revision to the SW20 chassis. With this revision came major changes, such as a power bump to 242 hp and fixes to the OEM suspension to counteract the notorious lift off oversteer issues that plagued earlier MR2’s. The power increase feels welcome in this chassis as acceleration is rapid yet smooth. Purists will be happy to know that the engine has been left almost completely stock, save for a quiet aftermarket exhaust system, and an HKS EVC electronic boost controller. Stickers note that this vehicle has recently undergone a timing belt service, and our trained technicians have fully inspected the vehicle to ensure that it is safe and healthy for the road ahead. A set of aftermarket coilovers give this MR2 a slightly lowered stance, and really help handling in the tight twisty roads where this mid-engine chassis can really shine. Shifts through the durable 5 speed manual transmission are smooth and direct, and a limited slip differential helps carve corners and further contribute to this MR2’s superb power delivery. While many JDM legends are rapidly rising in value, the MR2 is one of the undisputed best bang for your buck platforms out there. Get behind the wheel of this one and experience true JDM mid-engine fun!
