Vehicle History

Description

Honda’s fourth generation prelude marked the beginning of a new era of design for Honda automobiles in Japan. Gone were the boxy design trends and flip up headlights. The 4th gen prelude featured smooth, flowing body lines, one piece headlights, and a futuristic interior, with a sweeping digital dash and driver-oriented cockpit. Changes were also made in the drivetrain department as well, where Honda engineers reworked the already revolutionary 4 wheel steering system and gave the platform a modest horsepower bump. The top trim “SiR-VTEC” model was the first to feature Honda’s powerful H22A engine, a torquey 197 horsepower 2.2 inline 4 with Honda’s legendary variable valve timing added. The SiR was only offered in Japan, with the North American market not seeing the engine until much later. J-Spec Auto Sports has had the privilege of owning this gorgeous example of a 1992 Prelude SiR, and with only 18,935 unverified km’s on the clock, this is a collection-grade prelude any Honda enthusiast should add to their fleet without hesitation. Upon first glance of this ‘lude, it’s clear the exterior has been tastefully modified. The entire vehicle was repainted in Integra Type R “Phoenix Yellow”, down to the door jambs. The engine bay paint is the only area left untouched, and service records from Japan suggest that some front end panels have been repaired or replaced. The pictures on this one speak for themselves when it comes to the quality of the paint work, with no signs of clear coat fade or orange peel. Custom Type R decals have been affixed to the quarter panels and trunk and actually look quite fitting on the iconic Phoenix Yellow paint. The drab stock wheels have been replaced with a clean set of 16 inch Advan RC’s, a period correct compliment to the lovely 90’s bodywork. The interior is incredibly clean, and the vibrant blue cloth serves as a reminder of the bold color options offered on early 90’s vehicles. The factory seat upholstery has held up extremely well over the years, with no rips, tears, or burns. The seats fit snugly, and power adjustable bolsters ensure that every driver can get a tailored fit for the driving of their choice. All buttons and switches are fully functional, including the surprisingly accurate parking sensors. The radio has been removed, but we can gladly add one at the customer’s discretion. All digital instrumentation is fully functional and accurate, down to the climate control, where the A/C blows cold and strong. A series of omori gauges (voltage, amperage, vacuum, and oil pressure) affixed to the dash and a pillar have been added to help monitor engine vitals, and are also fully functional. Other modifications to the interior include a carbon shift surround, genuine Type R shift knob, and wild yellow checkerboard Feel’s floormats. Turn the key and the zippy H22A starts right up. For a four cylinder, the exhaust note is extremely well refined as this prelude has a full header-back exhaust system, consisting of an FGK header and catback exhaust. Power comes on smooth and strong, thanks to a Feel’s intake, and Splitfire plug wires. We’ve replaced the battery and distributor to make sure this engine starts up the first time, every time. Shifts through the 5 speed manual transmission are smooth and direct, and the car pulls in all gears without hesitation. The car has been well upgraded in the handling department as well. Blitz coilovers all around help this FWD coupe dive in and out of corners, and a Feel’s front strut bar, Tanabe rear strut bar, and DC sports lower tie bar increase chassis rigidity. This prelude stops on a dime thanks to an NSX caliper upgrade up front. The four wheel steering is in tact and functions well with no issues. If you’re looking for a unique JDM-spec Honda with almost unbelievably low miles, this bright yellow Prelude will add a much needed splash of color to your garage.
