The 80 Series Toyota Land Cruiser is a legendary full-sized SUV that has rightfully earned its title as one of the most bulletproof, do-it-all vehicles ever produced. Fortunately, the Japanese market has opened the floodgates for clean right hand drive examples to dominate US roads, and this black beauty is definitely a stunning example. Freshly imported from the motherland, this JDM Right Hand Drive 1993 Land Cruiser “VX Limited” has been outfitted with some choice off-road inspired upgrades and is ready to tackle any type of terrain! The exterior is ultra clean and definitely turns heads wherever it goes. Originally finished in Toyota Dark Emerald pearl this cruiser underwent a full repaint in Japan to Black Pearl, likely to combat clear coat fade as there is no accident or damage record at all on the vehicle. The black exterior is quite fitting and an excellent match for the black leather interior. Off road enthusiasts or those looking to get into overlanding will be pleased to see that this Cruiser is already equipped with a lift kit, off road wheels with Mud Terrain tires, and chrome bull bars on the front and sides, with two front mounted IPF fog lights. The chrome accents around the exterior are flawless and are free of any major pitting or fading. This cruiser is ready to show off at a car show or on the trails, depending on where your allegiance lies. Land Cruisers in this shape simply don’t pop up often. Being a top trim Land Cruiser, the interior is equipped with a few cool extras sure to spice up the driving experience for both the driver and passengers. A set of good condition leather seat covers sit over the factory heated grey cloth seats. While the original seats are in good condition, the leather definitely adds a bit of class to the interior. The dash is free of any cracking or sun fading and all interior plastics are in excellent shape. The iconic three spoke steering wheel, automatic gear selector knob, and drive selection shifter are trimmed in leather and free of peeling or wear. The gauge cluster is simple and shows 185,551km’s on the odometer (115k miles). Records from Japan indicate that the cluster was replaced, likely due to mechanical failure, and given the condition of the rest of the vehicle we wouldn’t be surprised if this figure was accurate. However, we must mark the mileage as unverified. The cabin is equipped with more than enough power amenities for the average road tripper. Power windows, mirrors, door locks, and an automatic sunroof are all to be expected on a top trim SUV, but enthusiasts will be glad to know that this Land Cruiser also features automatic climate control and a built in Toyota “CleanAce” air purifier. An OEM compass and altimeter is fully functional and a useful tool for those looking to off road the vehicle. By far the coolest feature (no pun intended) in the interior is the cool box, integrated into the center console. This OEM drink cooler helps keep your beverages cool on long road trips, and even features an integrated ice maker. While we have not tested the functionality of the ice maker, it certainly makes for a neat conversation piece. The back seats are spacious, with more than enough room for three passengers and plenty of room in the trunk to boot. Turn the key and the 4.2l 1HD Turbo Diesel roars to life. The 1HD-T is highly desired by Land Cruiser enthusiasts and we find it to be a much more fitting option in this chassis than the more readily available gas motor. Driving this beast is an experience in itself. The engine accelerates smoothly, delivering power to all four wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission, and an aftermarket exhaust system was added to bring out just enough diesel magic under throttle without being too overbearing. Unlike other lifted cars, this Land Cruiser is extremely easy to drive on highways, and the vehicle cruises smooth and straight with no additional road noise despite having all terrain tires. The 4 wheel drive system is fully functional and switches in and out of high and low gear without any issues.
