The 80 Series Land Cruiser is a legendary full sized SUV that has rightfully earned it’s title as one of the most bulletproof, do-it-all vehicles ever produced. Favored by outdoorsmen and women across the globe, the Land Cruiser has built itself a rock solid reputation, amassing a gargantuan following of enthusiasts in the process. Introduced in 1990, the 80 series Land Cruiser remained in production all the way until 2008. Although it underwent a few facelifts and upgrades throughout the years, most enthusiasts can agree that the 80 series Cruiser serves as the perfect blend of off road durability and modern comfort. While many of these Land Cruisers still exist on the road today, this particular Turbo Diesel 1994 Land Cruiser VX Limited is a bit out of the ordinary.

Freshly imported from the motherland, this JDM Right Hand Drive Land Cruiser came optioned from the factory with the Active Vacation Package. Take one look into the trunk of this Cruiser and you’ll instantly understand what this means. Yes, Toyota actually optioned these SUV’s from the factory with a bed, curtains, and camping sink. Certain models even had a stowaway camping stove! Such a weird trim package could only exist in a place like Japan, but we think this would be a perfect fit for a future owner in the USA who’s passionate about the outdoors.

The exterior is finished in an original two tone 4K1 Light Beige Metallic and Forest Green color scheme. Overall the paint is in good condition considering the age of the vehicle, there are some small areas where minor clear coat fade is present, but for the most part the vehicle shows extremely well and is a testament to the quality and durability of Toyota paint. The front fascia of the vehicle is accentuated by a chrome bull bar and a pair of top quality IPF Super Off Roader fog lights, complete with high and low beam functionality. The OEM rain guards and two tone paint really bring out the exterior’s aggressive body lines, and the original “Land Cruiser”, “Four Wheel Drive”, and “VX Limited” decals still look great and make a great edition to the already timeless exterior. The rear of this car is defined by the unique hatch spoiler and iconic spare tire carrier. The rear tail lights were replaced with a set of LED units, and the amber tint and graphics on the rear window still looks brand new. The OEM wheels were removed in favor of a set of rugged Racing Power alloys, perfectly complimented by a set of BF Goodrich All Terrain tires. The exterior photos truly speak for themselves on this one, Land Cruisers in this shape simply don’t pop up often.

The interior of this VX limited is equipped from the factory with a plethora of features. Aside from the aforementioned Active Vacation Package, the driver also gets to enjoy his or her share of creature comforts in the front of the cabin. For a top of the line Land Cruiser, interior trimmings are finished in the quality you’d expect from Toyota. The factory seats are upholstered in a soft and supple grey perforated suede and are free of any rips, tears, or burns. The dash is finished in grey, with wood accents, and all interior plastics are in excellent shape. The iconic three spoke steering wheel, automatic gear selector knob, and drive selection shifter are trimmed in leather and free of peeling or wear. The gauge cluster is simple and shows only 142,866 km’s on the odometer (88k miles!). With mileage this low, this Land Cruiser is just getting broken in, and the previous owner surely took excellent care of this car and made it their pride and joy. The cabin is equipped with more than enough power amenities for the average road tripper. Power windows, mirrors, door locks, and an automatic sunroof are all to be expected on a top trim SUV, but enthusiasts will be glad to know that this Land Cruiser also features automatic climate control, front and rear heated seats, and a power moonroof! An OEM compass and altimeter is fully functional and a useful tool for those looking to off road the vehicle. By far the coolest feature (no pun intended) in the interior is the cool box, integrated into the center console. This OEM drink cooler helps keep your beverages cool on long road trips, and even features an integrated ice maker. While we have not tested the functionality of the ice maker, it certainly makes for a cool conversation piece. The back seats are spacious, with more than enough room for three passengers, and the OEM curtains are still in great shape with no rips or tears.

Turn the key and the 4.2l 1HD Turbo Diesel roars to life. The 1HD-T is highly desired by Land Cruiser enthusiasts and we find it to be a much more fitting option in this chassis than the more readily available gas motor. Driving this beast is an experience in itself. The engine accelerates smoothly, delivering power to all four wheels via a 4 speed automatic transmission. An aftermarket lift kit, consisting of aftermarket Rancho shocks and springs was installed to make those off road adventures just a little easier. Unlike other lifted cars, this Land Cruiser is extremely easy to drive on highways, and the vehicle cruises smooth and straight with no additional road noise despite having all terrain tires. The 4 wheel drive system is fully functional and switches in and out of high and low gear without any issues.
