Toyota Diesel Hilux Surf:

Toyota has been a longtime provider of high-quality utility vehicles that also offer fantastic reliability. We never got the “Hilux Surf” most customers in the US market would know this vehicle as the 4runner. Usual, the engineers at Toyota across the pond, save some special goodies for their own versions of the vehicles they created that we never got. While cycle is produced in Japan, got special trims, adornments, or other various miscellaneous items this 1997 Toyota Hilux surf SSR-X comes equipped with a unique heart, the 1KZ-TE turbo diesel engine. Renowned for his incredible reliability and surprising gas mileage while also being able to off road and tow fantastic thanks to the torque provided. The blue on silver duotone looks phenomenal on this Hilux. Factory wide, fender, flares, or rear mounted spare tire and a set of factory running boards, this Hilux looks ready to take on off-roading or any grocery hauling. You need to tackle with it. This particular Surf also comes equipped with an extended front bumper with recovery point, some slim line wind deflectors, oh, and the aggressive looking factory hood scoop. A set of 16 inch aftermarket wheels wrapped in healthy Dunlop wintermaxx SJ8 tires that are 265 mm wide connect you to the road. With this being a 26 year old vehicle, there are some minor dings and chips seen with typical road use, but for its age this Surf looks fantastic!

The interior on the surf matches up with the exterior very nicely with it’s gray on blue interior. The seats are largely intact, especially including its bolster, save for a minor hole on the driver seat. These Hilux’ are known for their very spacious interior, and this one can hold five occupants no problem. Adjustable steering wheel, adds to the driver comfort on the road. The heating and AC work without a hitch, and it’s the same story with the rear window, power windows, and locks. Oh, this SUV has seen some minor modification to the interior mostly to do with the sound system. A Panasonic CN-HDS965D paired to a Panasonic CN-HDS960D navigation system sink up nicely with the AddZest SRK603 two way speaker system. This Toyota even comes with its OEM blue on black Toyota floor mats front and rear. Unfortunately, this vehicle is not perfect. However, as the backseats are missing their head rests. There are also holes that have been patched from when the previous owner in Japan changed head units on speaker systems.

As mentioned this hilux surf comes equipped with a legendary 1KZ-TE and is mated to an automatic transmission. Important to offer rotors for selectable four-wheel-drive system also features a center locking differential. No modification been made to the powertrain except for a subtle Rancho power exhaust that puts out a nice note from the turbo diesel engine. With 220,899km which translates to 137,260 miles, it is well below the average USDM 4Runner you may find on marketplace, and you can rest assured they won’t be equipped with one of Toyota’s best Turbo Diesel engines ever produced.
