We have been getting a ton of clean R33 GTS25T’s in stock recently, and this one is no exception! Compared to other JDM icons, the R33 Nissan Skyline has always been considered a bit of an underdog. With smoother, more bulbous bodylines than its predecessors, it took enthusiasts a while to adjust to Nissan’s new design language in the mid 1990’s. Now that they’re legal overseas, where Skylines were once considered unobtanium, the R33 is finally getting its time to shine. The R33 GTS25T model in particular is undoubtedly a fan favorite amongst Nissan enthusiasts in the USA. With a stout and powerful RB25DET turbocharged I6 and precise handling dynamics the R33 is one of the best driving classic JDM cars you can still get at a relatively affordable price. This 1993 model year example was optioned from the factory in desirable “Type M” trim with the factory 5 speed manual transmission, and is conservatively modified to deliver just enough driving excitement over stock! Starting with the exterior, this R33 has been resprayed in Nissan’s iconic LP2 midnight purple. First seen on the R33 Skyline GTR, this is a fitting color choice that does a fantastic job of accentuating the R33’s smooth, flowing body lines. An aftermarket front bumper provides more aggressive styling cues over stock and flows excellently with the stock type M side skirts, and the OEM low rise wing was scrapped in favor of a more aggressive GTR style unit. A set of black 5 spoke alloys with a polished lip are fitting against the dark purple paintwork, and aftermarket coilovers remove unsightly wheel gap while improving handling in those backroad twists and turns. The interior is in overall good shape, considering the age of the vehicle. The seats have held up well over the years, with no rips, burns, or major bolster wear, and all interior fabrics are free of any major defects The dash is in overall good shape, with no cracks to be found! The interior trim is in fair physical condition, save for some typical age-related peeling, and all buttons and switches work as expected. A few modifications have been made to make the cockpit a bit more driver-centric. A triple gauge pod, affixed below the radio contains an oil temp, oil pressure, and boost gauge. All fully functional. Also mounted on the center stack is the control unit for the tunable Apexi PowerFC ECU. The clunky OEM steering wheel has been replaced with a sleek MOMO Competition unit, which feels great in your hands as you pilot this Skyline. The OEM instrument cluster displays just 115,527 verified km (71k miles!). Turn the key and the RB25DET engine fires up without hesitation. This RB25 is outfitted with a healthy list of aftermarket modification and maintenance needed to provide an exhilarating, yet reliable driving experience. A full engine out service was performed where the engine was completely refreshed. A new head gasket, timing belt, water pump, piston rings, and more were installed to breathe new life into an RB25 sure to run healthily for years to come. When most enthusiasts look to upgrade their RB25DET engines, the first area of attack is freeing up restrictions in the intake system. An apexi intake, custom forward-facing plenum, and front mount intercooler all help this RB breathe better, and a larger turbocharger is last piece of the puzzle needed to create enough psi to have just a little more fun. A full turboback exhaust system with a varex cutout allows you to control your exhaust volume on the fly while still maintaining that signature inline 6 exhaust note! 750cc injectors deliver the fueling needed to handle this moderate power bump, and splitfire coil packs are a suitable replacement for the failure-prone OEM units. As mentioned before, this vehicle is running off of a conservatively tuned Apexi PowerFC ECU which handles engine management flawlessly. Boost comes on strong, and the vehicle pulls smoothy to redline with no hesitations or hiccups. The transmission engages all 5 gears smoothly without any grinds or pop outs. We have always felt that the R33 is one of the more daily driveable skylines as overall driving dynamics are surprisingly smooth and refined. Even with the modifications it’s an easy driver, sure to put a smile on your face, and turn heads wherever you go!
