Vehicle History
We never thought we’d be calling a car as legendary as the Nissan Skyline a super sleeper, but Japan is full of surprises and this one is certainly no exception. What originally started its life as a naturally aspirated R33 Nissan Skyline “GTS25” is now a rowdy, GTR swapped monster with a humongous single turbocharger and enough power to upset nearly everything on the road. While most big power cars feature an equivalent amount of aggressive exterior and interior modification, the previous owner decided to take a bit of a different route on this R33 build, as cosmetically this car appears to be almost bone stock. The exterior is finished in the original coat of Nissan’s QM1 cloud white, and for a 28 year old vehicle we’re surprised to see that there’s very few, if any signs of clear coat damage, orange peel, or fading on the original paintwork. The body is free of any dents, dings, or corrosion, and there’s no collision record at all on the vehicle from Japan. This R33 is a true survivor, with the only modification to the exterior being a set of period correct SSR Longchamp XR-4Z 3 piece wheels. The interior is in equally clean condition. Skyline interiors are notorious for aging poorly, and we’re happy to report that this one seems to have withstood the test of time. This is most likely due to the factory gauge cluster showing just 86,225 original km. Equating to about 53k original miles this interior is barely getting broken in and shows little to no signs of serious wear. Upholstery on the factory seats is in perfect condition, with no rips, tears, burns, or bolster wear, and the original dash is in great shape with no cracks or fading. All dash buttons and switches are fully functional, including the automatic climate control, and even the original single DIN radio is still intact! The stock three spoke steering wheel is in excellent shape, with no cracking or peeling on the leather, and a set of pristine OEM floor mats round off the look of this time capsule interior. While the interior and exterior may be original, what’s hiding under the hood is far from it. After the factory RB25DE engine bit the dust, it was swapped out for an RB26DETT sourced from an R33 Nissan Skyline GTR. This engine has been extensively modified with high quality parts and is perfectly spec’d for a wild high-horsepower build. The centerpiece of this engine bay is undoubtedly the massive single Greddy T78-29D turbocharger. Rated for a peak of about 650 horsepower, this is the perfect choice for anyone looking to tune this Skyline for more power down the road. A custom location single turbo means that custom intake and exhaust components were necessary. The intake, exhaust manifold, external wastegate dump, and downpipe were all custom fabricated, as well as custom front mount intercooler piping, which is fed by a massive HPI intercooler core. The overall installation of the turbo is clean and looks great sitting front and center in the engine bay. A custom intake manifold helps the engine breathe better and is attached to a larger throttle body. Fueling has been properly handled thanks to an upgraded fuel pump and Tomei pink injectors. This entire setup has been tuned on a Haltech elite 2500 ECU at MR Performance and puts down a respectable 416whp with plenty of room to grow. Of course, at these levels the stock transmission would undoubtedly be insufficient, so the weak OEM 5 speed gearbox was swapped out for a matching R33 GTR FS5R30A transmission, properly converted for this rear-wheel-drive application. Driving this monster of an R33 is certainly a treat. Things are relatively quiet, until the turbo spools up. This is not a setup we’d recommend for novice drivers, but experienced enthusiasts will have loads of fun rolling into boost and breaking the rear end loose. Shifts through the transmission are smooth, direct, and the upgraded clutch is surprisingly tame. A massive aftermarket exhaust looks menacing poking out from the bumper but produces a surprisingly tame tone under acceleration. The undersized stock brakes have been replaced with a proper set of Z32 300ZX calipers, and the car has no issue stopping on a dime. The suspension is stock but in excellent condition, with no leaks or serious wear. This is an incredibly unique build and is a perfect solution for anyone looking for a cosmetically clean R33 with an extra kick under the hood. Garage it or race it, we don’t care what you choose to do with this pristine Skyline as long as you enjoy it!
