During the late 1980’s, Honda was enjoying a great deal of success in both the Japanese and American market. The Hondas of the late 80’s solidified the company’s reputation as a manufacturer of quality utilitarian vehicles built to last. One of the most popular offerings during this time was the Honda CRX, a compact hatchback intended to be an ideal city commuter with excellent gas mileage. For a few years, the CRX remained this way, with sportier trims offering only a slight bump in power over stock. In 1989, however, everything changed. Honda released a variant of the CRX that would revolutionize the sport compact car market for years to come, and it showed the world that sporty cars could be fun, cheap, AND reliable. Known as the CRX SiR, this top-trim CRX came equipped from the factory with Honda’s legendary DOHC VTEC 1.6l B16A. Producing a stout 158hp from the factory, the SiR was incredibly peppy, mostly due to its curb weight of only 2200 pounds. This particular example, finished in frost white with black accent trim is a first year JDM Right Hand Drive SiR with surprisingly low miles! The exterior paint has held up remarkably well over the past 31 years, with little to no sign of clear coat fade or pitting. We have performed a full detail in house to make the paint look as good today as it did when the car was new! Honda purists will be pleased to know that this vehicle is 100% stock, down to the OEM alloy wheels. The interior is also in great shape! The OEM black leather and cloth driver’s seat is free of any major rips or tears, but shows some slight wear to be expected with the car’s age. The passenger seat appears to have been exchanged for a different OEM unit. The dash is clean and free of any cracking or damage. The automatic climate control works as expected and all other switches and buttons in the cabin are fully functional. There is plenty of cargo room on the inside thanks to a spacious hatch and foldable rear seats! While most JDM CRX’s were optioned with the hardtop or iconic glass top, this particular CRX is a factory sunroof model! The sunroof, as well as all other power windows, is fully functional and in great shape! Turn the key and the 60,000 original mile B16A happily comes to life. This punchy 4 cylinder revs easily all the way to its 8,000 RPM redline, and the 5 speed manual transmission shifts quickly and effortlessly. You’d never guess that the drivetrain of this car is over 30 years old, the suspension is tight and stays firmly planted around corners, and the brakes stop this lightweight hatchback without a hitch.
