It’s hard to think of a car more versatile than the Toyota Chaser JZX100. A luxury sedan that’s built a reputation as a legendary transporter, drift taxi, circuit hero, and car show standout, The JZX100 turned the Toyota Chaser into the icon it is today, and many car enthusiasts in the US have long yearned to own one of these powerhouse Toyotas for themselves. Since becoming legal for import in 2021, the US market has seen a tremendous influx of X100 Toyota Mark II’s, Chasers, and top of the line Crestas, but in our own humble opinion this particular 1996 Toyota Cresta in “Roulant G” trim is the absolute cream of the crop. With one of Toyota’s most legendary drivetrains and absolutely stunning aftermarket modification this Cresta is nothing shy of a true head turner and is turn key ready to show off wherever you desire. Optioned from the factory with Toyota’s esteemed 1JZ-GTE VVTi engine, this twin-scroll turbocharged I6 is the perfect powerplant for this chassis and pairs nicely with the equipped R154 5 speed manual transmission. Originally an automatic transmission vehicle, this Cresta was swapped in Japan and the conversion is seamless. The exterior of this JZX100 is nothing short of amazing. Finished from the factory in Toyota 057 Pearl White, the paint on this Cresta has held up exceptionally well. Not all paint is original, as there are a lot of aftermarket body panels on the car, but the original paint is still in superb shape. Like many JZX100’s this Cresta has been fitted with a plethora of aftermarket body panels and other accessories to achieve a truly stunning VIP look. Esteemed body kit masters Vertex have supplied the front bumper lip, wide front fenders, side skirts, and rear bumper, and a set of 18” Work Emotion T5R wheels are the icing on the cake of this perfect sport sedan. Factory rain guards and crystal headlights add some more JDM flair to the exterior, and Intec “Brado” coilovers give the car a hefty drop, eliminating any unsightly wheel gap. The interior is equally as stunning and luckily has been maintained just as well as the exterior. While the factory cloth seats are in good shape, a set of plush leather seat covers have been added to give the inside the luxurious look it deserves. The black leather is practically new, with no rips, tears or any other defects on the interior upholstery. The driver’s seat has been swapped for a Bride Zeta fixed bucket seat and fits surprisingly well with the aesthetic of the vehicle. The dash is in great shape, with no damage whatsoever, and the factory carbon pattered trim in the center stack has held up quite nicely as well. The factory digital climate control features functioning AC and oscillating vents, and a single din radio with USB capabilities replaces an outdated OEM unit. The gauge cluster displays just 108,096 actual kilometers. Averaging out to about 67k verified miles this vehicle has clearly been babied ever since it rolled off the production line. A Nardi steering wheel replaces the cumbersome factory wheel, and an Apexi PowerFC commander display works in conjunction with the tuned ECU to monitor engine vitals (more on that later). Turn the key and the 1JZGTE engine fires right up, emitting that signature Toyota I6 purr through the full 3” exhaust. The second generation of 1JZ engines saw significant improvements, including a more responsive variable valve timing system and a switch from twin turbochargers to one twin entry turbo. This 1JZ has benefitted from the addition of an HKS intake, HPI front mount intercooler, and aluminum Koyo radiator for those cool cool operating temps. Tuned on an Apexi PowerFC ECU, this JZX100 feels incredibly responsive and is a blast to drive. Shifts through the R154 5 speed manual transmission are smooth, and an ORC racing clutch helps put power to the rear wheels with ease.
