In Japan, the 1990’s were all about “Kaizen” or continuous improvement. A major economic bubble gave businesses the power and capital to innovate new and exciting products, and no industry benefitted more from this than the automotive industry. After receiving incredible reception from the public on their R32 Skyline chassis, Nissan sought to improve upon this already legendary sport coupe by quickly introducing the revised R33 Skyline in 1994. The R33 was a massive step up in quality from the R32, as the exterior and interior were completely revamped to not only look more modern but to suit the driver’s needs better as well. The Skyline GTST, in particular, received a much-needed power bump, thanks to the addition of Nissan’s famed RB25DET 2.5l I6 engine, and redesigned aero helped improve upon some of the R32’s shortcomings on track. This particular GTS25T “Type M” trim Skyline is an excellent, properly modified example of a properly spec’d R33, and with low original miles it’s guaranteed that this one runs just as good as it looks. The exterior is finished in a beautiful respray of Nissan’s TH1 Midnight Blue Pearl. This color accentuates the R33’s smooth and subtle body lines quite well, and all paintwork looks to have been performed professionally. The stock front bumper has been replaced with a JSAI Aero GTR Style unit, which flows perfectly with the OEM Type M side skirts and GTR wing. It’s amazing how such a conservatively styled car can look perfectly aggressive with just a few choice modifications. The OEM 5 spoke wheels have been replaced with a set of Volk Racing Challenge F Zero wheels. The gold finish is a perfect compliment to the midnight blue body, making this icon a real head turner. Lastly, a set of Blitz ZZR coilovers on all four corners give the car a lowered stance while also severely improving handling. The interior follows the theme of cleanliness, is in great original condition as well. One step into the car and you instantly notice the improvements in build quality over similar 90’s Nissans. The dash is free of cracks and bubbles and the seats and other original upholstery have been cared for extremely well. Factory upholstery on the seats looks almost new, with no signs of rips, tears or burns. The dash material is in fantastic shape, and all buttons and switches work as expected, down to the fully functional automatic climate control. Other modifications to the interior include an autometer boost gauge and aftermarket shift knob. The OEM instrument cluster is fully functional and displays just 116,625 verified km’s (72,467 miles), explaining the excellent condition of the vehicle. Pop the hood, turn the key and the powerhouse RB25DET springs to life. This “baby brother” to the famed RB26DETT is no slouch and is a perfect powerplant for the RWD GTS25T chassis. This RB25 has been lightly modified to enhance the driving experience with only a few key modifications. An aftermarket filter was installed on the intake to increase airflow and enhance induction noise, a large Blitz front mount intercooler replaces the undersized OEM unit, and an HKS Super Drager exhaust emits a low rumble under acceleration without sounding too over the top. The turbocharger spools with ease as the 245hp motor sings gracefully to redline. Shifts through the 5 speed RWD transmission are smooth and direct. The factory power level makes this Skyline an absolute joy to drive and, despite its increased curb weight over the R32, the R33 feels extremely balanced and planted while darting its way in and out of corners. This Skyline GTS25T would be an excellent daily driver for the discerning JDM enthusiast or starting platform for someone looking to do a big-power RB series build! Market values on R33’s are continuing to skyrocket, so grab this beautiful example before it’s gone!
