When it comes to pickup trucks, the words Hilux and durability are pretty much synonymous. Toyota has long been one of the most respected truck manufacturers, and it’s not uncommon to see classic Toyota trucks still roaming the streets today. While U.S roads are still filled with plenty of 1990’s Tacomas, it’s near impossible to find a diesel powered double cab Hilux out on America’s highways and byways, due to the fact that certain trucks, like this pristine example, were never offered for sale in the USA. This Hilux comes equipped with the 2.8 3L engine, Toyota’s steadfast, naturally aspirated four cylinder diesel engine. While the 3L is no powerhouse, delivering 90 hp and 135 lb/ft of torque, it does its job well and reliably gets this Hilux where it needs to go. On the exterior of the truck, the original dark red paint has held up incredibly well, partly due to the fact that this truck has just 103,615 original kilometres on it. Translating to approximately 64k miles, this Hilux appears to have been treated very well in Japan. The undercarriage is free of rust, the chrome on the bumper is shiny and smooth, and the body looks to have been garage kept and maintained religiously. We have fitted a set of aftermarket deserto off road wheels, wrapped in Blizzak tires to really make this Hilux stand out. Some scratches are present in the painted truck bed, which is to be expected from a vehicle designed for hauling. If the exterior looks 100%, the interior looks like 110%! The original cloth seats are free of rips, tears, or stains, the dash and other plastics look like new, and all features function as expected, notably the air conditioning, which blows ice cold. Turn the key and the aforementioned diesel engine roars to life. While you won’t be using this Hilux to win any races, the 5 speed manual transmission is a solid pairing for this engine, and is geared well to handle low speed or towing situations. The 4WD selector selects gears without a hitch, and drives just as well as it did the day it left the showroom floor! With such low mileage, this Hilux is just getting broken in, now it’s ready to uphold its indestructible reputation on US shores.
