The JZA80 Mk4 Supra is one of the most timeless JDM sports cars of all time. Its iconic appearance, characterized by smooth, seamless body lines, and legendary 2JZ Twin Turbo powerplant made the MK4 a legendary sports car that could drive comfortably to the drag strip, put down a competitive quarter mile time, and drive home without any issue. With stories of the famed 2JZ having the ability to hold close to 600 horsepower on the stock block, as well as a hearty endorsement in “The Fast and The Furious”, the Mk4 quickly caught the attention of aftermarket companies looking to add their own personal touch to an already superb chassis. A multitude of unique, aftermarket body kits, suspension options, and engine performance parts seemed to hit the market overnight in Japan, and owners began modifying the JZA80 chassis as a unique reflection of their own personal style. This Targa Top Mk4 Supra is an excellent example of what you can do with a little money and a lot of imagination. The exterior of this Supra certainly isn’t boring, and the previous owner made sure there was a lot to talk about. The gorgeous body kit is actually made up of fiberglass components from different JDM tuning companies. The front fascia is defined by a Top Secret front bumper and Abflug hood, which provide aggressive styling cues without being too over the top. The one-piece side skirts are a nice upgrade over the subtle factory units, and the Abflug rear bumper makes this Targa a sight to see as it blazes past you on the interstate. The exterior is tied together by a set of staggered 19″ SSR Fellini LM9 Wheels, rounding off (no pun intended) the list of top shelf body modifications. If you’re a fan of 90’s car electronics, you’ll love the interior. Fully equipped with period modifications, this Supra is a 90’s tuner time capsule. The leather driver’s seat has been replaced with a Recaro SR3 Confetti Lemans, with the passenger and rear seats retaining their factory leather upholstery. An aftermarket MOMO Commando steering wheel has been installed as well. HKS pillar gauges and a DEFI boost gauge ensure that engine health is in check, and a rare TRD instrument cluster displays an increased km/h limit, a must have when driving this beast at 100%. An aftermarket Carrozzeria touch screen head unit/DVD player was installed in Japan in place of the JDM specific upper glovebox. Pop the hood and you’ll see that the 2JZGTE engine is well equipped with all the necessary bolt ons needed to increase the performance of this twin turbo inline six. An HKS intake and Greddy Front Mount Intercooler allow for increased airflow in and out of the turbocharger, and an Apexi grounding kit ensures that voltage going to the engine is smooth and balanced. Custom braided stainless radiator hoses are an appropriate upgrade over the stock rubber units, and a Blitz Nur Spec exhaust allows the 2JZ to open up and sing. The suspension has been fully taken care of, thanks to a set of adjustable and rare Abflug coilovers and a Cusco front Strut Bar. Driving this Supra is an experience in itself. Take the targa top off, turn the key, and the 2JZ roars to life. Although this model is equipped with the less desirable automatic transmission, shifts are smooth and the auto ensures that boost isn’t lost between gears. If you’re looking for an excellent performance bargain, this automatic Supra may be your best bet, as manual examples of this vehicle are rising rapidly in price and assuming a “collector car only” status. This example is set up well to accommodate a 6 speed swap in the future, or to drive as a turn-key 90’s beast that will hold its value for years to come.
