This compression-tested JDM 350Z VQ35DE engine is a long-block replacement for the 2003–2006 Nissan 350Z and the Infiniti G35. Nissan’s 3.5L VQ35DE powered both cars, and it remains one of the best-known V6 engines Nissan ever built, as Wikipedia’s Nissan VQ engine overview explains. About This 350Z VQ35DE Engine

This engine carries serial VQ35 035780 and shows about 60,000 miles. Like every VQ35DE, it’s an aluminum DOHC V6 with a timing chain, so it needs no belt service. Specifically, this is the standard (non-Rev-Up) version for RWD cars. In the U.S., the VQ35DE made between 260 and 287 hp, depending on the model.

350Z VQ35DE Engine Fitment

Since this is a standard RWD VQ35DE, it replaces the engine in these models:

• 2003–2006 Nissan 350Z
• 2003–2006 Infiniti G35 sedan (RWD)
• 2003–2007 Infiniti G35 coupe

However, many 2005–2006 manual-transmission cars came with the “Rev-Up” VQ35DE, which uses a different ECU and harness. For that reason, send us your VIN, and we’ll confirm the fit before you order.

What About AWD or FWD Models?

This engine is set up for RWD. By contrast, AWD models such as the G35x use a different oil pan, and FWD Nissans like the Altima and Maxima use a different layout. Therefore, ask us before you use it in either.

How to Install a 350Z VQ35DE Engine

1. First, transfer your intake plenum, injectors and sensors from the original engine.
2. Next, move your O2 sensors, because JDM and U.S. plugs can differ.
3. Then, transfer your wiring harness and keep your original ECU.
4. After that, move your flywheel (manual) or flexplate (automatic) to the new engine.
5. Also, replace the valve cover gaskets, water pump and timing chain tensioner while you have easy access.
6. Finally, prime the oil system, bleed the cooling system and scan for codes after the first start.

Most importantly, keep your original engine until the swap is complete, so your installer can compare parts side by side.

Yes. It replaces the standard VQ35DE in the 2003–2006 350Z as a long block.

Will this VQ35DE fit my Infiniti G35?

Yes. It fits the 2003–2006 G35 sedan (RWD) and the 2003–2007 G35 coupe.

Is this a Rev-Up engine?

No. It’s the standard VQ35DE. Since Rev-Up engines use a different ECU and harness, check with us first if your car has one.

Is a JDM VQ35DE the same as a U.S. engine?

Internally, yes. Still, reuse your U.S. intake, sensors and O2 sensors, because some plugs can differ.

Does the VQ35DE have a timing belt or chain?

It uses a timing chain. Therefore, you only need to inspect the chain and tensioner before installation.

Is the transmission included?

No. However, we can quote a matching RWD transmission separately.
