Description

Mazda Eunos Roadster NB1:

The NB1 chassis Mazda Roadster is the iconic follow up to its legendary predecessor, the NA chassis Mazda Miata. The Mazda Eunos Roadster NB1 is famous for how incredibly easy they are to work on with incredible driving dynamics straight from the factory. If you’re into cars, it’s almost guaranteed that at one point in time you’ve wanted a Miata, driven a Miata and grinned, or at least entertained the idea of adding one to your fleet. While Mazda has been producing the MX5 Miata in the states since 1990, North American climates haven’t exactly been the kindest to these classic roadsters, making it near impossible to find a clean North American market example that hasn’t fallen victim to rust and corrosion issues. This is where the Japanese market comes in. These JDM “Eunos Roadsters’ ‘ tend to have lower mileage and cleaner bodies than most USDM Miata’s and come with some choice JDM specific features. This particular 1998 model year NB1 Eunos Roadster is an extremely clean example, optioned from the factory in base trim with Mazda’s durable 1.8l 4 cylinder powerplant and 5 speed manual transmission. With only 119900 original km on the chassis (74500 verified miles!) this Roadster is certainly a rare find and will undoubtedly serve the next owner well for years to come.

The exterior on this one is in great condition overall, with a fresh respray of Mazda “British Racing Green ” paint, this Miata is a definite head turner, especially with the OEM hard top! The exterior has remained largely untouched, aside from handling improving Blitz coil-overs, and 15×8” XXR MonoBlock wheels that almost look as if they belong on the vehicle from the factory. The barebones styling of the OEM interior perfectly suits this no-frills roadster and is in excellent shape. The original Black cloth upholstery on the Recaro seats is free of rips, tears, or burns, and the carbon fiber backing of the seat proves this car was built to last. The dash is clean, with little to no cracking or sun fading, and all switches in the center console work as expected, including the AC. Look behind the seats and you’ll see a beefy padded roll bar. The previous owner has kept the OEM soft top and added a roll cage to improve handling and safety. The OEM steering wheel has been replaced with a sleek 3 spoke Auto Select unit. Finding a NB1 Roadster interior this clean is a rare sight, and we’re sure the next owner will appreciate the flawless condition of this one.

The 1.8l 4 cylinder powerplant fires right up and idles smoothly. You wouldn’t expect 140 hp to be so exhilarating, but in this lightweight chassis, it’s a suitable amount. The motor is free of any and all unnecessary aftermarket modification. In mechanically stock form, this car is a real treat. Take all the fun of a Miata, throw the steering wheel on the right, and you have a recipe for some serious driving pleasure. The motor revs happily throughout the rev range with no hiccups or hesitations. The 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly throughout all gears and makes this fully-involved driving experience second to none. This car makes quick work of backroad twists and turns, thanks to a set of Hankook Ventus V12 Tires. Japanese Spec Miatas in this condition are a rare find on US shores, and a collection ready example such as this is one that shouldn’t be ignored. Get behind the wheel of this Mazda Eunos Roadster Hardtop and experience how less is more when it comes to minimalist driving enthusiasm.
