JDM Honda K24A Replacement Engine for the Accord and Element

If the 2.4L in your 2003–2007 Accord or Honda Element has failed, this JDM K24A offers an affordable, low-mileage replacement. Honda built the K24A as part of the same K-series family as the U.S. K24A4, so the long block shares the same basic design. Moreover, Japan’s strict inspection rules retire cars early. As a result, JDM engines often show far fewer miles than U.S. engines of the same age. In this case, the engine shows about 60,000 miles and comes with a 90-day warranty.

K24A at a Glance

First, the basics: the K24A displaces 2,354 cc with an 87 mm bore and a 99 mm stroke. It also uses a DOHC 16-valve head with i-VTEC and a maintenance-friendly timing chain. In U.S. form, the K24A4 makes about 160 hp and 161 lb-ft of torque. This engine, serial K24A 5314513, tested at [210 / 210 / 210 / 210] PSI on our compression gauge.

Vehicle Compatibility

This K24A long block replaces the 2.4L engine in the following U.S. models:

• 2003–2007 Honda Accord 2.4L (LX, EX and SE)
• 2003–2006 Honda Element
• 2007–2011 Honda Element (with additional transfers – confirm with us)

Installation Checklist

Because this is a long-block replacement, your installer moves several parts from your original K24A4. For a trouble-free start, follow these steps:

1. First, transfer your original intake manifold. JDM K24A engines often lack the EGR port that U.S. models need.
2. Next, move your original fuel injectors and fuel rail, since JDM injectors can cause a lean code.
3. Then, swap over the throttle body and VTEC solenoid.
4. After that, transfer all sensors. Also, compare the crank sensor plug, and use your original sensor and trigger wheel if they differ.
5. In addition, move the water pump housing, alternator, A/C compressor and power steering pump as needed.
6. Meanwhile, compare the oil pan and engine mount brackets, especially on an AWD Element.
7. Finally, keep your original ECU and wiring harness, since they match your car’s emissions system.

Most importantly, keep your original engine until the job is complete. That way, your installer can compare parts side by side.

Before You Install

The K24A uses a timing chain, so it doesn’t need a belt service. Even so, inspect the chain tensioner and VTC actuator, since a rattle on a cold start points to wear. At the same time, replace the water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, valve cover gasket and front and rear main seals. Then, add fresh 5W-20 oil, a new filter and Honda Type 2 coolant.

Before the first start, prime the oil system. Next, fill and fully bleed the cooling system. During the first heat cycles, watch oil pressure, coolant temperature and leaks. Finally, scan for trouble codes and clear any codes from the installation.

Will this K24A fit my 2003–2007 Honda Accord?

Yes, it replaces the 2.4L K24A4 as a long block. However, transfer your original intake manifold, injectors, sensors and harness.

Will it fit my Honda Element?

Yes. It fits the 2003–2006 Element with the same transfers. For a 2007–2011 Element, send us your VIN first, because that model uses the K24A8.

Is this a plug-and-play replacement?

No. Although the long block bolts in, your installer must move your original external parts over. Otherwise, you may see lean or emissions codes.

Will it fit an Acura TSX?

No. The TSX uses a higher-output K24A2, so it needs a different engine.

Does the K24A have a timing belt or chain?

It uses a timing chain. Therefore, you only need to inspect the chain, tensioner and VTC actuator before installation.
