Toyota’s Hilux Surf SUV’s are some of the most recognizable 4 door utility vehicles in the world. In the U.S. market, we know them as 4Runners, but the JDM market models have a few things that really make them stand apart, and this example is one of them. This particular 1994 Toyota Hilux Surf SSR-X is in pretty decent condition, and while it may not have a perfect outside, the interior is impressively clean. This is to be expected given its auction rating of 4B and the fact that it was a One-Owner vehicle! On the exterior, original Deep Blue Metallic paint is definitely not in perfect condition, as there are minor scratches around the exterior as expected from a 25+ year old vehicle. There is also one minor dent on the front bumper which does not impact the vehicle beyond cosmetics. The wheels fared a little bit better, showing significantly less of the signature corrosion than we typically see. This Surf also has some high quality running boards that add to the usability of the large SUV. Around back, the spare tire is mounted in the popular trunk mount position giving this Hilux undeniable character. Underneath the body surprisingly shows no significant rust, and looks like its ready to tackle the roads ahead. On the inside we see that the vehicle was very well kept, and also completely stock and dash components still look fantastic as well! The gray cloth seats have stood the test of time, and the color looks how Toyota intended it to from the factory. The Bolster is still intact, though broken-in to the extent you would expect from a nearly 30 year old vehicle. All powered features still function without hitch, including but not limited to; all power windows, power rear window, Heating and A/C, and all relevant controls. Following the completely stock nature, even the original head unit is still factory original. The floor mats even look just like new with the 90’s appropriate blue, black, and gray pattern. What makes this Hilux Surf unique especially when compared with its USDM counterpart is its powertrain. This is an SSR-X model equipped with the legendary 1KZ-TE Turbo diesel engine and it has plenty of power to tackle any adventure, on road or off. The turbo diesel featured in this example was never offered on the American market, and it’s what makes these JDM versions so special. The selectable 4WD adds to the capability of this renowned workhorse. With just 147,659 verified kilometers (which converts to 91,751 miles!) This classic 1994 Hilux Surf is a great platform that can be ran for years to come! Completely stock top to bottom, save for the wearable components or fluids that have been changed over the 29 years it’s been in commission, this Surf makes itself a desirable candidate for those looking for a fun daily warrior.
