Up for sale is a beautiful stock example of one of Toyota’s most legendary sleeper sedans! In the early 1990’s, Toyota seemed to have a performance car in every segment of the market. Cutting-edge sport coupe? Toyota Supra. Luxury coupe? Toyota Soarer. Hot hatchback? Toyota Starlet. Sport compact? Toyota MR2. The list goes on and on. While all these cars featured groundbreaking features and steadfast Toyota reliability, there was no performance car more versatile than the JZX90 Mark II, Chaser, and Cresta. Offered in a broad variety of trims in Japan, this do-it-all sports sedan could be spotted everywhere from city streets and highways to mountain touges and race tracks, and with a factory 276 horsepower 1JZGTE engine, it was certainly no slouch. This particular JZX90 in Mark II trim was the most barebones 1JZ equipped vehicle you could buy at the time. As any good car enthusiast knows, less features means more room for modification, and luckily, this is one bone stock example ready to customize as you wish. The exterior of this 1993 model is finished in beautiful Toyota Super White (040) paint and is in superb condition! The body is in great shape, with no dents or dings, there are some light scuffs around the body, but nothing that isn’t to be expected of a car of this vintage. Our auction record (see attached history report) suggests some repair work performed to the front of the vehicle, so we can’t verify that this is the original paint. We can verify, however that the car looks great and is a perfect blank canvas for modification. The interior of this Mark II Tourer V is exceptionally clean as well. Trimmed in the factory navy cloth, the seats are in great shape, with no rips, tears or burns. This is a non-smoker vehicle. The dash is free of any cracks and bubbles and is incredibly clean for a 27 year old vehicle. All interior features, buttons, and switches work as expected, including the automatic climate control, Air purifier, power door locks and mirrors. The original gauge cluster displays only 124,312 verified kilometres (77,243 miles!). This Mark II was clearly cared for extremely well by its previous owner in Japan. The back seats are spacious and have more than enough room to seat three additional passengers comfortably. Turn the key and the 276hp 1JZ twin turbocharged inline 6 roars to life. Boost hits at about 3500 RPM and pulls smoothly yet aggressively all the way through the powerband. If you didn’t already notice the gauge cluster, this vehicle was indeed swapped over from the factory 4 speed auto to Toyota’s renowned R154 5 speed manual transmission. We beefed up the drivetrain with some SerialNine differential bushings and this sport sedan drives like an absolute dream. No modifications have been made to the engine, and maintenance stickers throughout the vehicle, including a timing belt change at 100k suggest that this JZX90 was never neglected mechanically The R154 transmission is geared nicely for street and highway driving and shifts smoothly through all gears with no grinds or pop outs. The factory 16 inch wheels are wrapped in a good set of Bridgestone Potenza tires and have no problem gripping the road in any performance driving conditions.
