Up for sale is a beautiful stock example of one of Toyota’s most legendary sleeper sedans! In the early 1990’s, Toyota seemed to have a performance car in every segment of the market. Cutting-edge sport coupe? Toyota Supra. Luxury coupe? Toyota Soarer. Hot hatchback? Toyota Starlet. Sport compact? Toyota MR2. The list goes on and on. While all these cars featured groundbreaking features and steadfast Toyota reliability, there was no performance car more versatile than the JZX90. Offered as three different models in a broad variety of trims in Japan, this do-it-all sports sedan could be spotted everywhere from city streets and highways to mountain touges and road courses, and with a factory 276 horsepower 1JZGTE engine and stout 5 speed manual transmisson, it was certainly no slouch. This particular JZX90 Toyota Chaser is a fantastic example of the X90 chassis, modified just enough to increase smiles per gallon without going too overboard on modifications. The exterior of this 1995 model year Chaser is finished in a beautiful coat of Toyota 6N2 Dark Green and is in superb condition! The body is incredibly clean and is largely unmodified. A tasteful pair of OEM Toyota side skirts look great and really accentuate the smooth luxurious body lines of this Chaser. A set of KTS coilovers give the chassis a healthy drop and help the set of 19” Weds Kranze Borphes wheels tuck nicely in the wheel wells. The interior of this JZX90 is exceptionally clean as well and outfitted with a few key modifications to help enhance the performance driving experience. The driver’s seat has been swapped with a red Recaro SR4 unit, a suitable replacement over the weakly bolstered factory seat. A Nardi steering wheel feels great in your hands as you pilot this drift taxi down the road, and an Omori boost gauge is affixed atop the steering column. The dash is free of any cracks or fading and is incredibly clean for a 26 year old vehicle. All interior features, buttons, and switches work as expected, including the automatic climate control, Air purifier, power door locks and folding mirrors. The OEM instrument cluster has been replaced with a TRD 320km unit. Due to the cluster swap, we must note that the 155k km’s (96,690 miles) are unverified, but the actual chassis is clean enough where that figure may be close to accurate. This Chaser was clearly cared for extremely well by its previous owner in Japan. The back seats are spacious and have more than enough room to seat three additional passengers comfortably. Turn the key and the 276hp 1JZ twin turbocharged inline 6 roars to life. While not extensively modified, this 1JZ does benefit from a Trust intake system and aftermarket 3 inch exhaust with dual blast pipes. A Vertex engine damper and TRD oil cap add some choice JDM flair to the engine bay as well. Boost hits at about 3500 RPM and pulls smoothly yet aggressively all the way through the powerband. Records from Japan indicate that this was originally optioned with a 4 speed automatic transmission, and later swapped to Toyota’s legendary R154 5 speed manual. The conversion is seamless and the vehicle drives as if it was a factory manual. The R154 transmission is geared nicely for street and highway driving and shifts smoothly through all gears with no grinds or pop outs. Despite the lowered ride height, there is no rubbing on the aftermarket wheel setup and the suspension is plenty comfortable for daily driving or long road trips. A fresh coolant service and new tires on the rear ensure this sport sedan is turn key and ready to tear up the streets.
