Up for sale is a prime example of one of Subaru's most celebrated vehicles on both the dirt, snow, and pavement! Following the success of the Subaru Legacy platform in the World Rally Cross championship, Subaru engineers sought to develop a new, more compact vehicle that would outperform it's larger predecessor and competition. This vehicle was dubbed the Impreza WRX, with WRX standing for "World Rally eXperiment". The first generation WRX featured a new turbocharged "EJ20G" flat four, which produced an impressive 230hp, a close-ratio 5 speed manual transmission, and of course Subaru's legendary symmetrical AWD system. These first gen WRX's have somewhat of a cult following in the USA due to their incredible performance off road, and the fact that they were never offered in a turbocharged variant on US shores. Now, 25 years later, these rally-inspired imprezas are finally legal to import in the USA, and this model is an excellent example of what a WRX should be. Finished in a fresh coat of the OEM silver metallic, this Impreza WRX has undergone a few subtle exterior changes to make it stand out from the rest. A set of OEM Version 5 WRX side skirts and rear lip were freshly painted and installed to give the car a lower and sleeker profile, and the bland stock wheels were abandoned in favor of a set of 17" Basel Starform alloys. Other than these small OEM + touches, the exterior is extremely clean and an excellent example of early 90's Subaru style! Unique styling cues extend their way into the interior, where the OEM "red tiger" seats put a splash of color in the utilitarian yet useful cockpit. Despite the vehicle's compact size, this Impreza has ample leg room in both the front and rear, with plenty of storage space in the trunk! Leave it to Subaru engineers to design a rally car that's still practical for everyday use. The interior is in immaculate shape for it's age! The seats are free of rips and tears, and the plastics show no signs of serious wear or sun damage. The clunky OEM steering wheel has been replaced with an aftermarket MOMO Race wheel, a quality replacement option! With just 61,000 verified miles, it's easy to see why the interior has held up so well. The 2 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine fires right up and idles smoothly. Acceleration is quite punchy, with a solid amount of low end torque, and an aftermarket Fujitsubo exhaust beautifully projects the signature boxer rumble as the car accelerates! The 5 speed manual gearbox shifts smoothly. We have replaced the OEM shifter bushings to combat the typical Subaru "shifter slop", a must-do modification for these vehicles! The AWD system behaves as expected, diving in and out of corners without losing an ounce of traction. The stock WRX struts have been replaced with ones from a later WRX STi and provide a useful handling upgrade.
