If the automotive world had an “endangered species” list, the twin-turbocharged all wheel drive R32 GTR would undoubtedly be a new addition to the mix. Five years ago, when Godzilla was making its first debut on US shores, clean GTR’s were abundant and a remarkable performance bargain. Now, these vehicles have ascended to collector car status, with well-preserved examples being as hard to find in the States as they are in Japan. We believe that Godzilla deserves to be driven, which is why we brought over this particular R32. Equipped with minimal, top of the line modifications, this is one of the most pleasant GTR’s we’ve ever driven, and while we do enjoy heavily modified, high horsepower vehicles, this silver R32 perfectly embodies the GTR essence. Displaying just 73,273 original kilometres (45k Miles!) on the clock, this low mileage GTR has been tastefully modified and well preserved to be a true drivable collector’s car. The exterior is finished in Nissan’s KG1 Jet Silver Metallic, which is in excellent condition given the age of the car. The front end appears to have had some professional paintwork performed. The exterior is delightfully stock, save for a set of white Volk TE37 wheels, which contrast nicely with the silver paintwork. Peek into the front grill and you’ll notice an ultra rare set of OEM fog lights, a welcome addition over the usual NISMO style fronts we usually see here. Take one glance at the interior, and you can instantly tell that the previous owner of this car was extremely meticulous about the condition of their vehicle. The factory seats are free of any rips and tears and are still in excellent condition overall. The dash is free of any cracks or bubbles, a rare find on R32’s, and all dash buttons and switches work as expected. While the outside and inside of this GTR are certainly impressive, the suspension and drivetrain work really make this one stand out from the crowd. A top of the line set of Mine’s ESTA Pro II coilovers (5200 yen) with external reservoirs keep this GTR glued to the road in any road or track situation. Ride quality is superb and the car sits at a functional yet aggressive ride height. This Godzilla doesn’t skip a beat in the corners, thanks to a NISMO rear LSD. A NISMO twin plate clutch was also added to beef up the drivetrain. Last but not least, a NISMO front strut bar looks great in the engine bay and helps improve chassis stability. Turn the key and the 2.6 “RB26DETT” inline six cylinder engine fires up without hesitation. A quick pop of the hood reveals the well-kept twin turbo monster in all its glory. The engine has remained beautifully stock besides the addition of aftermarket downpipes and a full Apexi exhaust, which sounds fantastic. A quick test drive of the car confirms that this beauty drives even better than it looks! Boost comes on smooth and strong and the 5 speed manual transmission shifts as smooth as butter, even under hard driving conditions. This GTR is an absolute star on twisty backroads, and the ATTESA all wheel drive is extremely confidence inspiring. If you’re looking for a collector’s vehicle that can do double duty as a weekend warrior, this well modified R32 is one example that is sure to hold its value and keep a smile on your face!
