The FD3S Efini (Mazda) RX7 can be best described with one word, timeless. Throughout the years, Mazda’s 3rd generation wankel powered warrior has never gone out of style. Its smooth, futuristic body lines have graced many a bedroom wall poster, and their popularity in video games and the tuning scene has made the FD a cult classic at shows and meets. It’s a car that enthusiasts just can’t get enough of, and now that Japanese Spec examples are legal to import into the USA, the market is able to be consistently supplied with tasteful, low mileage examples, such as this 1992 Vintage Red beauty offered here at J- Spec Auto. Market prices on RX7's are rising faster than a rotary engine's tachometer, so those looking to invest in these JDM halo cars should do so sooner rather than later. This particular RX7 is astoundingly clean and looks to have been gently used and preserved well by the previous owner. The exterior is finished in the aforementioned Mazda Vintage Red (NU). This was by far the most popular paint option offered on the FD RX7, and for good reason. It perfectly accentuates the iconic 90's sports car style, and makes this FD a sight to behold on any roadway or racetrack. The vehicle received a professional respray in the USA and was detailed afterwards to comply to our rigorous vehicle restoration standards. The exterior has remained mostly stock with the only modifications being a pair of aftermarket side skirts and period correct set of Yokohama AVS VS5 split 5 spoke wheels. The rest of the body is clean, original, and rust free. The inside is in equally as clean condition and stands as a testament to the simplistic elegance of early 90's sports car interiors. The factory driver's seat was replaced with a remarkably rare OEM Mazdaspeed bucket, which does a fantastic job at holding the driver in during those tight backroad twists and turns. All other materials in the interior are in excellent shape and all buttons and switches on the dash function as expected. Even the steering wheel looks as if it's barely been touched. Unlike most Efini RX7's, this model was not equipped with the factory rear seats, instead two storage bins are located in the interior, much like on the USDM models. The interior is free of any aftermarket modification, save for some much-needed cupholders and a hard-to-find RE-Amemiya instrument cluster and boost gauge. While the cluster displays just 61k kilometres, it is an aftermarket unit, therefore mileage cannot be verified. Turn the key and the 13B twin turbo engine fires right up and happily brap brap brap's at idle. Air induction modifications, such as HKS intercooler piping and an ARC airbox help the twin turbos spool nicely and the engine has no issues at all reaching its screaming 8,000 RPM redline. An aftermarket exhaust emits a nice purr without being incredibly overbearing. Other than that, the engine is free of any serious aftermarket modification that may hamper reliability in the future. Cusco coilovers keep this FD3S dialed in the corners and a brand new set of Kenda all season tires ensure that this RX7 will grip the road no matter what weather conditions are thrown its way.
